MARCH 2008—Operating Strategies
Logistics: As food manufacturers and distributors seek to concentrate on their core businesses, more are turning to logistics providers for warehousing, inventory control, and transportation. Logistics firms are a growing source of revenue to public warehouses and motor carriers, both as direct asset-based providers of service and as purchasers of service. Users and providers of logistics services will be featured.
Leasing: Leasing continues to grow in importance to refrigerated fleets. In addition to providing a method for adjusting fleet size rapidly, many food distribution companies look to leasing companies for complete, turn-key transportation services including equipment, maintenance, and drivers.
APRIL 2008—Driver Recruitment Training and Retention
A growing economy will produce increased demand for a pool of qualified labor for truck driving with the result that fleet operators will need to cast a wider net for employees to keep the seats of their trucks filled. Finding drivers and maintaining programs to keep qualified drivers concerns the entire industry. In addition to editorial emphasis on training and retention, this issue will offer a directory of driver training schools. (Available Online)
